Today was my last day of orientation with the whole Mountbatten group and at the end we got to walk to our work place, UBS. There are 59 of us working at UBS on Liverpool Street! I will be taking the Central Tube Line daily to get to work and getting off at the Liverpool Street Stop which is literally opens up to the UBS Investment Bank building, awesome! I will need to take photos to try to explain this better, but it is literally an entire block of buildings [not sure if they are all connected or not] with a huge center court area that could be its own little city. HUGE. Lots of fancy dressed up people walking around... it was fun, made me a bit excited. I also found out that I don't start work until Tuesday of next week! About half of the group starts tomorrow.
After we saw where we lived, I took the tube to where I will soon be living with 2 other interns who are also living there. It will be about a 15-20minute tube ride and another 10minute walk to get to work everyday, but it is quicker than the bus by far! There goes about $180-200 a month :( But, in 6 months we can change locations and I will try to change to Ability Towers as it is walking distance from UBS.. save some $$$ that way! The area I will be living in is different than most of London, it has a very heavy Middle Eastern feel to it and heavily populated by Indians. Lots of hooka bars and curry restaurants for sure. But, I hear every bus goes through that area and right behind it is the major shopping [which I can't do - but hopefully that means good restaurants and pubs, etc]. Also, I am about 5 blocks away from the Marble Arch and Hyde Park.
After finding the apartment building, we proceeded to get lost, get on a bus and walk around aimlessly until we got back to our current housing. It was great! I need to invest in a GOOD London map. The current interns threw us a party/gathering at a pub called Pitcher and Piano in the Bank District to have a little meet-and-greet. My little group of friends only stayed for a little bit as we are pretty exhausted and hungry. Tonight I had thai food, yum!
